Workforce Development Specialist

 

Overview

The Workforce Development Specialist ensures the growth and development of the company's workforce. Success in this position entails implementing effective training programs, identifying skill gaps, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and establishing relationships with external educational institutions. The specialist collaborates with various departments to enhance employee performance, support the company's overall strategic goals, and actively engage in workforce development initiatives beyond the organization.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the workforce development team to write curriculum, develop and teach comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of employees, focusing on areas such as electrical safety, technical expertise, and industry regulations.
  • Identify skill gaps within the workforce through assessments and analysis, and design targeted training initiatives to address those gaps.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including recruiting and field operations, to identify specific training needs and develop customized programs accordingly.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives through feedback, performance metrics, and employee assessments, and make necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external educational institutions, such as trade schools, vocational programs, and high schools, to promote career opportunities in the electrical field and develop partnerships for training and apprenticeship programs.
  • Actively engage in outreach efforts to promote the electrical contracting industry, raise awareness about career paths, and participate in career fairs, industry events, and educational workshops to connect with potential talent.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years working experience as a commercial electrician.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in workforce development, training, or a similar role within the construction or electrical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical code, application, and installation.
  • Strong knowledge of workforce development strategies, training program design and implementation, and performance evaluation methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships with external educational institutions is highly desirable.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently while also being a team player.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Relevant certifications in workforce development, training, or instructional design are preferred.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to different job sites, training locations, career fairs and external educational institutions as needed.
